Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. - IEEE

Founded in 1884, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a worldwide technical professional society devoted to advancing the theory and application of electrical engineering, electronics and computing. The IEEE serves over 310,000 professionals in approximately 150 countries.

The IEEE Control Systems Society was founded in 1954 as a scientific, engineering, and professional organization dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice of systems and control in engineering.

Michael Sebek is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He served for many years in the IEEE Control Systems Society Conference Editorial Board preparing regularly the program of the two major annual IEEE CSS conferences: ACC and CDC.

Michael Sebek is a founding member of the Czechoslovak Section and serves in its Executive Committee. He is also the founder and the founding chairman of the Czech Control Systems Society Chapter.

He was also an Executive Committee member of the Central European Chapter of the IEEE Society for Engineering Management.

International Federation of Automatic Control - IFAC

The International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) is an association of scientific or professional engineering organizations, one from each country, having a strong interest in automatic control. The purpose of IFAC is to promote the science and technology of control through technical meetings and publications. Founded in 1958, IFAC has at present 50 National Member Organizations from all continents. The most important events are triennial IFAC World Congresses.

Since 2008, Michael Sebek has been a member of the IFAC Council. For several terms, he has been a member of the Administrative and Finance Committee. He was also the Vice Chair of the IFAC Policy Committee and

Michael Sebek is a member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Robust Control.

Michael Chairs the Czech National Committee for Automatic Control, which represents the Czech Republic within IFAC.

New York Academy of Sciences - NYAS

The New York Academy of Sciences is an independent institution committed to advance science and technology and to apply them for the public good. Founded in 1817, now it has over 45,000 members, drawn from 160 countries. The Academy sponsors meetings and publishes scientific volumes and magazines.

Michael Sebek has been an active member of the NYAS since 1993.

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics - SIAM

Inspired by the vision that applied mathematics should play an important role in advancing science and technology in industry, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) was funded in 1951. Just as applied mathematics has grown, so has SIAM membership - from a few hundred in the early 1950s to more than 9,000 individual as well as 300 institutional members today.

The goals of SIAM are to advance the application of mathematics to science and industry; promote mathematical research that could lead to effective new methods and techniques for science and industry; and provide media for the exchange of information and ideas among mathematicians, engineers, and scientists. It is fitting that the acronym SIAM also represents the society's slogan: Science and Industry Advance with Mathematics.

Michael Sebek is a member of the SIAM and of its Control Systems Group.

American Mathematical Society - AMS

The American Mathematical Society (AMS) was created to further mathematical research and scholarship. Founded in 1888, it now has approximately 30,000 members, including mathematicians throughout the United States and around the world. It continues to fulfill its mission with programs that promote mathematical research, increase the awareness of its value to society, and foster excellence in mathematics education. Michael Sebek has been a member of the AMS since 1994.

Michael Sebek has been a member of the AMS since 1994.

The European Union Control Association - EUCA

The The European Union Control Association was founded in1990, by prominent members of the Systems and Control community from countries of the European Union. Its main purposes are to promote initiatives aiming at enhancing scientific exchanges, disseminating information, coordinating research networks and technology transfer in the field of Systems and Control within the Union.

Michael Sebek has been a memebr of the EUCA Administrative Council representing the Czech Republic since 2004.
